SHEQ Manager 
 
Location: Cork or Galway 
 
SHEQ Manager will be responsible for leading, implementing, and overseeing the Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) management systems across the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants, as well as repair and maintenance frameworks and panel inspection frameworks.
 
This role involves driving a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations, and maintaining the highest standards in health, safety, environmental protection, and quality. The SHEQ Manager will manage a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with site operations, engineers to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of facilities.
 
The SHEQ Manger will maintain and enhance the SHEQ management systems in line with industry standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, ISO 9001).Continue to update company SHEQ policies and procedures to ensure continuous improvement in safety, health, environmental protection, and quality performance. The SHEQ Manager will lead and manage the SHEQ team, including SHEQ officers, inspectors, and compliance staff, while providing guidance and training to the wider operations team to ensure compliance with SHEQ requirements.
 
The SHEQ Manager will conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and accident/incident investigations. They will ensure all operations comply with occupational health and safety legislation, implement and monitor safe working practices and procedures for the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants. They will review and analyse safety data to identify trends and recommend preventative measures. It is imperative to oversee quality control and quality assurance procedures for wastewater treatment operations, repair, maintenance, and inspection frameworks. Manage internal and external audits for compliance with relevant quality management systems. They will implement SHEQ training programs for employees at all levels. Ensure that all employees, contractors, and partners are aware of and comply with SHEQ requirements. The SHEQ Manager will ensure adherence to all relevant legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards. They Lead investigations into any safety, environmental, or quality-related incidents, ensuring root cause analysis is conducted and corrective actions are implemented. They will oversee the emergency response plans for wastewater treatment plants and ensure the team is trained and equipped to handle emergencies effectively.
 
ATEX knowledge is crucial for this role as wastewater treatment creates an explosive atmosphere due to the presence of gases, vapours, or combustible dust. A thorough understanding of ATEX regulations ensures that equipment and work environments are compliant with the stringent safety standards required to prevent explosions in hazardous areas. The SHEQ Manager must assess and mitigate risks related to explosive atmospheres, ensuring the correct implementation of ATEX-approved equipment, enforcing proper maintenance procedures, and ensuring the workforce is trained in ATEX safety protocols. This expertise is vital for protecting personnel, assets, and the environment from potential hazards, while maintaining legal and regulatory compliance.
 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in SHEQ management within wastewater treatment, utilities, or a similar industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 standards and other relevant industry standards.
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, preferably within an operational and maintenance setting.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Proven ability to lead safety, health, environment, and quality initiatives with a focus on continuous improvement.
